Each team that makes a playoff bowl game would still receive money for
playing in the game. The total money could be cumulative to the
National Championship Game. This proposal will still allow each bowl
team to receive a substantial payout.
The projected total payout to each team for the 2006-07 bowls is projected
to be approximately staggering $254,046,000. To breakdown a payout
schedule for each bowl game, I used roughly the same total (Based on my
example, a total of 95 million is NOT unrealistic and in fact, maybe
low considering the now importance of each bowl game)
Please keep in mind the figures I have below are just figures, they
were easy numbers to work with, but any amounts would work.
- Round 1 Games (8 Games)– 1 million to each team with a bonus of 500,000
to the winners = Total payout for round 1 would be 20 million
dollars
- Round 2 Games (4 Games)– 1.5 million dollars to each team with a bonus of
750,000 to the winners = Total payout for round 2 would be 15 million
dollars
- Round 3 Games (2 Games)– 2 million dollars to each school with a bonus of
1 million dollars to the winners = Total payout for round 3 would be 10 million
dollars
- Round 4 (Championship Game) – 15 million dollars to each school with a 2
million dollar bonus for winning the game = Total payout for Championship game
would be 32 million dollars
At the end of the tourney/playoffs, the National Champion would have received
a TOTAL payout package of 23.75** million dollars. This amount could also
be divided among the schools within the winners conference as is done now.
- Bonus would be paid only if NCAA rules allow. If not, bonus could be dropped
or added into final payout to each team for game appearance, still resulting in
a huge payout for each school.
- At a minimum, a round 1 loser would receive 1 million dollars and potentially
1.375 million dollars. In the 2006-07 Bowls, the minimum payout for any
bowl is $250,000(MPC Computers Bowl).
